Levi was the 3rd son of Jacob. Assigned to the temple, the levites were the only tribe eligible to priesthood and, consequently, were not entitled to inheritance.
Jacob's revelation about Levi and his brother Simeon is chilling GEN 49 5-7 ... instruments of cruelty are in their habitations. Jacob's prediction was reinforced by Moses in DE 33:8-11 Curses shall you be in the city, curses shall you be in the country. Malachi 2:1-9 went further "... Behold, I corrupt your seed and spread dung (feces) up on your face."
Levi tribe has been scattered throughout the world. We found the tribe in Haiti, sharing the island of Hispanola with his brother Simeon. In addition to their inbred affinities, they share also the same habits : Idolatry & Magic!
